(AP) - The Golden Globes will go on tonight almost entirely void of its usual red carpet glamour.
The writers guild has called off its planned picket of the event, which will be stripped of everything Hollywood except for the nominations. For those keeping track, the romance "Atonement" is leading the pack with seven nods.
The award ceremony has been rehashed as an hour-long announcement featuring TV news personalities.
At the same time, the fate of Hollywood's biggest night is still unclear. Academy Awards organizers are insisting the show will go on with or without the writers.
Films may not enjoy the same box-office bounce they typically receive after winning high-profile prizes, which can add tens of millions of dollars to their haul during the long awards season.
