Authorities say a suspected carjacker led officers on a high-speed chase on Southern California freeways for nearly 150 miles before being stopped near the Mexican border.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said the pursuit began Thursday night in Willowbrook. Deputies spotted someone driving recklessly in a Lincoln Navigator that was reported stolen the day before. Sgt. Richard Pena said the driver got into a crash, got out of the vehicle and carjacked a pickup truck in the parking lot of a shopping center.
The driver then sped up to 90 mph on several freeways, dangerously swerving across traffic lanes. He was heading toward the border when a patrol car struck the truck’s rear bumper. The fleeing vehicle spun to a halt.
