Viewer’s Voice: Share Your Thoughts
Viewer's Voice
Friday, December 5th
Many of our viewers have strong opinions, and we invite you to express them in a segment we call Viewer’s Voice. And some viewers we’ve heard from many times, including this one. She feels we’re not giving rain, fair coverage.
“You need to understand that rain is important to our lives. You just had a newscaster who said, ‘oh we’re gonna get rid of the rain, it’s gonna get out of here.’ Rain sustains our lives we are mostly water as human beings. Without rain we could not survive.“
We have on many occasions said we needed the rain and asked our Storm Team Nine meteorologists when we’d have a good chance of rain. We’ve covered the drought extensively for many months with stories on its impact on local farmers and communities.
And Steve from Kinston has a sharp set of eyes:
“I have been watching WNCT news cast for quite a few years and I have noticed within the last few months that at the beginning of your 6:00 pm news show, you have a small clip of a water fountain that the water is running backwards (the water is flowing from the base pool and shoots upwards to the fountain spout).”
You’re right Steve, good catch. We sent the local footage to a production company that put it together, and we will have it corrected.
And this from Raynada and Michael Keel:
President Bush passed that everyone that’s receiving unemployment benefits will receive throughout the holidays. But Employment Commission denied my husband the unemployment extension benefits. What I want to know is if the benefit for everyone, or certain people. We feel that it’s discrimination.
We reported the extension went into effect November 23rd, so if you filed for unemployment before then, you’re not eligible for extra payments. If not please let us know and we’ll investigate it. We’d be interested in interviewing you. Thanks to those who contacted us for Viewer’s Voice.

(I wish for this to be presented over the air.)
I am a 30 year old Gay male that wants to express the Closed-minded Homophobia that goes on in Greenville. Why is it that everyone is so interested in my lifestyle.why are they always preaching the God stuff and looking at me like i’m the bad guy.Pitt county has a lot of Rude people.they don’t understand openly-Gay men like myself.Coming from California,Pitt county is way behind and needs to stop being Bigots.People tell me i need to tone it down because i am too flamboyant.but i feel i am just being me.why is it so hard that people can be totally ignorant and talk about Greenville is diverse.thats funny because i just don’t see it.The Gays here are even Rude. It’s a very Closeted community and i feel it needs a lot of attitude adjustments before they continue to tell more lies.being “Diverse” isn’t a word i’d use for Greenville.More like “Old Fashion” and “Closed-minded Homophobes”....
Haaaaay!
I wanted to express that Pitt counties Community needs more activities.Being a openly-Gay male it is extremely difficult.i also speak for others as well.i’m originally from California.Since i lived in Greenville people have been rude.closed-minded.yet very Homophobic and rude.from the way i dress or how i speak,i tend to get a lot of hassle because i am unique yet different in my own style.Greenville needs places for Gays and Lesbians and the Transgender community to go and hangout.without being hurrased or looked at funny. Why is it that every one is so interested in trying to convert us Gays.why are they so intimidated and concerned about how we live and choose to show our affection to our spouse in public? Pitt county always talks about being Diverse, thats funny because i just don’t see it that way.greenville and other small towns in the area are full of Homophobes and Bigots.I feel they need to get over it and let our Gay community blossom. It’s time for Change.Greenville needs to open up a gay District and let us have rights too.we are limited to certain things and if we do go out,we can feel the negative hateful vibes and attitudes from the Anti-Queer community. All i know is,We need to figure out a way to end the Homophobia in Pitt county.
The staff at Broad Creek Middle School have seen fit to deal with the graffiti problem in the 8th grade girls restroom by removing the doors from the toilet stalls. Now all of these young women have to change their feminine products in from of an audience. This act on the schools part is wrong and annacceptable. My daughter who used to have a love of learning, no longer wants to go to school because of this and other like minded events in which the school portrays a ‘tough guy’ attitude.
I wonder if I am the first to use 9 on your side to help with a situation with WNCT. Approximately four years ago I allowed WNCT News to use my video tape as footage for a news story about a black bear that rummaged through the trash dumpsters at Washington County Union School in Roper. The night that the black bear story aired, many of my students was not up to view the story or had no way of knowing it would be on T.V. I contacted WNCT for a copy of the story aired and was told I would have to pay 60.00. Here it is 4 yrs later, and I see my video aired again for the “Hunter attacked by black bear” story. It seems to me WNCT would extend to me a bit of courtesy and send me a free copy of the story since my footage was used to add a visual effect. The students from four yrs ago are now at the high school, but it would sure interest the students I have now.
