RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Republican Rep. Walter Jones has won his eighth term representing North Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District by defeating Democratic challenger Craig Weber.
The Associated Press called the race for Jones based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for the AP by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.
The district covers the northern coast to Jacksonville, including Camp Lejeune, and Jones’ criticism of the Bush administration’s Iraq war policy have frustrated some voters. He drew a strong primary challenge earlier this year.
Weber is a Morehead City meteorologist and a former Marine. He said some of Jones’ comments opposing the war amount to compromising the military’s mission.
