Governor Bev Perdue signed an emergency declaration to help the western part of the state recover from the major rock slide on Interstate 40.
The governor’s move will help get federal money to clear the rocks and make repairs to the interstate.
Only westbound traffic is affected by the rockslide.
She wants to get the section of I-40 near the Tennessee border open again as quickly as possible.
