There’s another development in the case of missing five-year-old Shaniya Davis that now points to her mother.
Police say she sold her daughter.
Fayetteville investigators arrested Antoinette Davis on charges that include human trafficking and felony child abuse.
Investigators say something didn’t seem right with the mother’s story as they dug deeper into the case.
“The felony child abuse and human trafficking charges came based on information that investigators received today, the filing a false police report and resist delay and obstruct charges came after investigators reviewed ms. Davis’s time-line and statement she had given investigators who found several inconsistencies,“ Sgt. John Somerindyke said.
Davis’ daughter hasn’t been seen since Tuesday morning at the family’s home in a trailer park.
Antoinette Davis joins Mario McNeill as a suspect in this case.
Police arrested him on Friday.
They say he confessed to kidnapping the girl.
Police released surveillance video they say shows McNeill with Shaniya at a hotel in Sanford.
Family members have come forward to defend Antoinette Davis.
“She’s a good mother. My daughter’s a good mother. She’s a straight good-up mother,” said Ann Summers, Shaniya’s grandmother.
Antoinette Davis and Mario McNeill are being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Investigators have not been able to locate the missing girl.
