RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The $88 million Powerball winner plans to publicly speak about the jackpot in Raleigh.
North Carolina Education Lottery officials said the ticketholder will speak Tuesday afternoon at the state lottery’s headquarters. The unidentified winner purchased the ticket at a gas station in Kings Mountain and was the only winner in Saturday’s drawing.
The ticket is worth $88 million, and the winner can choose to collect the money in 30 payments over 29 years or take a lump-sum payment worth about $42 million minus state and federal taxes. A North Carolina ticket also won the Powerball in November 2006, when Jackie Alston of Halifax got a jackpot of $74 million.
