A special break for some state employees today, to talk about health.

Workers got a chance to check out the Health and Wellness Expo at the State Fairgrounds.

With changes to state employees health plans, higher premiums for smokers or those considered overweight, it gave them a chance to explore healthier options.

Governor Perdue was on-hand sharing her own health struggles.

Perdue is a former smoker and used to weigh twice what she does now.

“I just decided I could control my own destiny.  If state employees want to do that, I’m here to cheer them on. But again, this is personal.  Nobody can make you do it.  It’s something you have to decide you want to do,“ says Governor Bev Perdue.

The General Assembly approved the premium hike during their last session.
