Formerly conjoined twins to need years of care

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - A humanitarian group says formerly conjoined Bangladeshi twins separated this week will remain in the group’s care for at least two years.
    The two girls had been attached at the top of their heads and shared brain tissue and blood vessels. They were separated Tuesday after 25 hours of surgery, followed by six hours of reconstructive work.
    One of the girls, Trishna, has awakened from her medically induced coma and has been talking and acting normally. Hospital officials say her twin, Krishna, is slowly being brought out of her coma.
    The two remain in serious but stable condition. The orphaned twins will be three years old next month.
    An aid worker first saw the girls in a Bangladeshi orphanage when they were a month old, and contacted the Children First Foundation, which brought them to Australia. An official says it’s too early to say if they will be adopted by the group’s founder.
