Meteorologist David Sawyer is thrilled to be back home in eastern North Carolina! You may recall from 1990 until 2004, David covered the weekend weather anchor duties in addition to serving as the Morning and Noon Meteorologist at WNCT-TV. During this time, David was a part of the award-winning continuous coverage of eastern North Carolina's worst natural disaster following Hurricane Floyd in 1999. David will always remember the honor of serving the viewers dealing with such devastating losses and inconveniences by the flood waters that covered the WNCT viewing area.
In 2004, David was offered an opportunity to serve as Chief Meteorologist at the CBS television station in Birmingham, Alabama. David spent 5 years forecasting complex weather patterns in central Alabama which included outbreaks of severe weather that often involved tornadoes.
On July 27, 2009, David was privileged to return to Storm Team 9 as Chief Meteorologist. He looks forward to utilizing nearly two decades of weather forecasting experience to keep WNCT viewers informed with an accurate forecast each day.
David and his wife, Kathy were married in 1989 and have five children. As a family, the Sawyers enjoy camping, sports and participating in church-related activities.
In addition to his enjoyment of studying and forecasting the weather, David's passion for teaching enhances his desire to participate in school assemblies when invited. David considers it an honor to be involved with community happenings around the Eyewitness News 9 viewing area. If you would like David to be a guest speaker at your next event, please contact him at dsawyer@wnct.com.
