Allan Hoffman has been the primary 6, and 11 o'clock news anchor at WNCT Eyewitness News 9 since 1986. He started in broadcasting working as a reporter in Miami Florida in 1973. Allan also became assistant News Director at the station in Miami Florida, News Director in Huntsville Alabama, and Executive Producer of news in Asheville North Carolina.
His awards include a National Emmy for public service, Newscaster of the year for Eastern North Carolina. He was instrumental in helping WNCT win the National Association of Broadcasters Award for "Friend in Need" and the prestigious "Edward R. Morrow" award for continuous coverage during the Flood of the Century, in 1999. He has won numerous North Carolina Associated Press awards for reporting and Quality Newscasts. He was also honored as "Laymen of the year" by The Florida Lions Eye Bank.
For 8-years Allan taught writing for TV and Radio at East Carolina University. He is a founding member of the Pitt County Infant Mortality task force - Past president of the "North Carolina Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association" and past President of the "Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 272" .
As a combat helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War in 1970, Allan was awarded the "Distinguished Flying Cross for Valor", the "Purple Heart" for wounds received in combat, "Bronze Star for Valor", "Air Medal with the numeral "23", and the "Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry". His unit, the 170th Assault Helicopter Company won two Presidential unit citations for gallantry during his time in-country.
Allan still holds a current pilots license in both fixed and rotor wing aircraft. Allan and his wife Barbara have two children and three Grandsons!
