A New Bern police officer was involved in a single-car accident on Oaks Road Thursday night.
Just after 10 p.m., Officer John Hardin, 32, was en-route to an emergency call, when he lost control of his police cruiser. The vehicle rolled three to four times before coming to a stop in a residential yard near Oaks Road Elementary School.
Officer Hardin was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital just before 11 p.m. He suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. He remains in the hospital in stable condition. Doctors have given him a good prognosis for recovery.
The accident is still under investigation by the New Bern Police Department Crash Reconstruction Team. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
Officer Hardin has been a member of the New Bern Police Department since 2004.
