The first annual Green Fest will be held at Colonial Mall on April 19th from 10 am until 3 pm. ECVC has joined together with the city, county, and ECU to put this event on. The event is a celebration of Earth Day which is the 22nd of April.
One component of the Green Fest is to showcase recycled art project winners from the three pilot schools (Elmhurst, South Greenville, and Wahl-Coates) that are currently participating in the “Feed The Bin” program. Each school will have an internal competition and the top five from all three schools will compete for the three top prizes. The top 15 will be exhibited at the event.
Companies or individuals involved in any type of green initiative will be displaying. Vendors are Releaf, the Pitt County Agricultural Extension Office (composting and water conservation), The Resource Enhancement Division of the NC Division of Marine Fisheries (recycling oyster shells), the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation, Lowes Home Improvement, East Carolina Lincoln/ Mercury/Chrysler/Dodge/GEM (electric car), Greenville Toyota (2008 Prius & Corolla hybrids), Greenville Host Lions Club (eye glass collection for recycling), Carolina Greenworks, GUC, Keep Greenville Beautiful, Feed The Bin, The Unnatural Resource Institute, and Mohawk Carpets. ECVC and the city and county (environmental “spin the wheel” for prizes) will also have booths.
ECVC operates the Materials Recovery Facility on Staton Road and is very involved in increasing recycling in the area. A bale of aluminum cans from the MRF will be at Green Fest. Whoever gets the closet to guessing the number of cans in the bale will win a 6’ tree donated by Lowes.
