Pitt County Joint Board Meeting

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Fewer teachers: more students.
It's a dilemma the Pitt County School District may face in the upcoming school year.
Tuesday night Pitt County School System told the public what would happen if they don't get an additional $3.5 million in budget money from the county.
They are battling the increased cost of utilities, food and fuel.
If they don't get the money they say they need they plan may be to cut 50 positions within the school system; that would include 30 teachers.
"It keeps getting more difficult and more difficult each year because it's a compounding impact of all the salary increases from year to year,” said Michael Cowin, Financial Operations, Pitt County Schools.
The county will meet again on the issue on May 21st.
The school system is hoping to get more money from the state.
