HENDERSON, N.C. (AP) - The daughter of the Vance County sheriff who was charged with driving while impaired after a state investigation has been found guilty.
The Daily Dispatch of Henderson reports that 33-year-old Shahita White filed an immediate appeal Monday after receiving a four-month suspended jail sentence and probation.
Henderson police ticketed White for reckless driving during a traffic stop March 23 on U.S. 1. But in memos released after a public records request, officers said White appeared noticeably intoxicated.
Transcripts of 911 calls showed three motorists called 911 to report White's vehicle traveling on the wrong side of the highway.
District Attorney Sam Currin asked the State Bureau of Investigation to review the case, and White was charged with DWI based on its findings.
