CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Former Republican candidate for governor Pat McCrory is ready to announce his plans about leading North Carolina's largest city.
The Charlotte mayor scheduled a news conference for Thursday afternoon to reveal whether he intends to run again for mayor next year or step down after a record seven terms in office.
McCrory lost to Democratic Beverly Perdue last month in the closest governor's race in 36 years in North Carolina.
McCrory said after his defeat that he had already decided on his decision for mayor before announcing his candidacy for governor 11 months ago. But he said he didn't want to reveal it until around the end of the year.
McCrory received 47 percent of the vote in the November election.
