It's been almost two months since deputies believe Cesar Laurean murdered Maria Lauterbach.
The FBI is still searching for Laurean, while local investigators are still looking for answers about what exactly happened on Dec. 14th -- the night they believe Laurean killed Lauterbach.
And now, deputies have once again turned to Laurean's wife -- Christina -- to help shed some light on their lingering questions.
She's come under fire because search warrants show she knew about Lauterbach's death at least a day before she reported it to deputies.
But the Onslow County Sheriff's Office continues to call Christina Laurean a cooperating witness.
Sheriff's Office Capt. Rick Sutherland says investigators have turned to her on multiple occasions, because they believe she may have key information about Cesar Laurean, the crimes he's accused of committing and the crime scene.
So once again, late last week deputies called her for help -- hoping to draw closer to learning exactly what happened on the night of Dec. 14th.
“We had a chance to speak to her again on Friday,” Sutherland said. “Last week, we had some more information that we needed her to provide to us. We had some questions for her.
“We asked for an opportunity to speak to her. She complied with that and she answered all the questions that we had.”
Sutherland wouldn't say what questions they asked her -- but he did say they were related to the murder investigation and not the manhunt.
And he once again emphasized that Christina Laurean is still being classified as nothing more than a cooperating witness.
