Two people to replace retired director of NC mental health system

»  Comments | Post a Comment

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The embattled state agency charged with treating North Carolina's mentally ill will now be managed by two people, instead of one.

The Department of Health and Human Services said Friday that Dr. Mike Lancaster and Leza Wainwright will be co-directors of the Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services.

They take over for Mike Moseley, who announced his retirement last week.

The state's mental health system has struggled with a reform effort that began in 2001. It has tried to shift most patients from institutional care to community-based treatment offered by private medical providers.
