RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A death row inmate convicted of killing his father in 1986 has died of natural causes.
The Department of Correction said Friday that 59-year-old Gary D. Greene died early Wednesday morning at Central Prison in Raleigh. Department spokesman George Dudley said he couldn't release details about the health conditions of inmates.
Greene was convicted in 1987 in the murder and armed robbery of his father, V. Pressley Greene in Caldwell County. He was sentenced to death, along with a concurrent 40-year sentence for robbery.
Greene's sentence was vacated in 1991, but he was again sentenced to death after a re-sentencing hearing in 1998.
