WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) - Duke University says court rules were violated when attorneys held a press conference before suing the school in the fallout of the Duke lacrosse rape case.
A March 20 hearing was scheduled Friday to hear arguments from Duke and more than a dozen other defendants named in the suit. They say the plaintiffs' attorneys broke rules of professional conduct.
The attorneys held a press conference Feb 21 in Washington, D.C., shortly before filing the suit on behalf of 38 unindicted players and nine family members.
Duke and other defendants argued in a motion Thursday that the press conference and a Web site used to publicize the lawsuit prejudiced the case.
Duke said it only issued its own statement on the lawsuit because of the substantial publicity.
