The debate over the consolidation of four high schools into two continued Monday night. The issues of having Bear Grass high school students attend
Monday’s public hearing on the issue left a lot of people frustrated.
The issue of closing two of the four high schools in
Parents and students were at the board of elections meeting tonight to share their opinion.
Phil Hodges who is against the consolidation said, “I wish you would consider what you’re doing to this county by closing schools. This is just a mistake. These people in this community need their schools."
This is not the first time the board has heard this argument, but the issues remain the same.
Tom Daly, the superintendant of schools said, “Part of the issue the board has been dealing with is the cost of renovating and construction coast."
He added if they were to approve the consolidation, the school system would blend teachers into the two schools.
The school board let the public speak for about ten minutes and then moved to other items leaving many who those who came feeling frustrated.
Tonight board members voted to set the public meeting in three weeks on January 28th at the Williamston high school auditorium.
