The manhunt for a man accused of murdering a 20-year-old pregnant Marine may be coming to an end soon.
Law enforcement officers are trying to catch 21-year-old Cpl. Cesar Laurean -- who's been on the run since Friday.
Investigators accuse him of murdering LCpl. Maria Lauterbach.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says that law enforcement across the country are working to track down Laurean.
Brown says multiple witnesses in Shreveport, La., claim they saw Laurean at a bus station there.
It's unclear at this point whether Laurean was getting off a bus, or getting onto a bus -- but Brown says officers there are working to verify those claims.
At last check, Brown said it's unclear where Laurean was headed or where he could be now -- but Brown says he feels like officers are closing in.
“I feel like that the law enforcement agencies in this country are on his trail,” the sheriff said Sunday afternoon. “And I'm not going to tell you that he'll be here tonight, but I can tell you that I do feel comfortable that his vacation will be short. His travel may be long, but I hope we'll be there to help him return.”
Brown says he doesn't believe Laurean has changed his appearance at this point, but he says that doesn't mean he won't change it going forward.
He also says that there has been a sighting on Laurean's vehicle in a city other than Shreveport, but he wouldn't go in to any detail about that.
At this point, Brown says Laurean is still dangerous, and still on the run.
