Volunteers Needed by Habitat for Humanity in Havelock

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Habitat for Humanity of Craven County has been given a fabulous opportunity to go into the Ft. Macon apartment duplex community in Havelock before demolition and salvage refrigerators, stoves, sinks, cabinets and anything else we can cart away. There are 242 apartments!
We need all the volunteers we can get to accomplish this task.

This project will go over the next few weeks, we are hoping to finish as soon as we can. It all depends on how many volunteers we can arrange.
Our current plan is to work Monday thru Saturday and be on site from 9-3.

The project details are as follows:

Work Days will be Monday thru Saturday 9-2 or 3. Habitat will have
several project supervisors on hand to direct volunteer activity.

Location: Ft. Macon Apartment complex. This is located off Highway 70, just past the Havelock Police and Fire Departments (where the Harrier aircraft is displayed)on the left hand side (if you are heading East).
Once you go past this traffic light, the units are approximately 2/10 of a mile on the left. There is a Hess gas station across the street.

We hope to have some sort of Habitat for Humanity signage up. There is one main road that goes thru the complex. Our storage truck with Habitat ReStore should be visible where we are working.

The general plan for each day is to have individuals check in at one main point and be assigned in groups of three per apartment. Each team will be given a sheet with directions on how to dismantle a kitchen.
The items will then be loaded onto trucks and brought back to be stored in New Bern. James Ingram and Jimmy Garner will be our main project coordinators in Havelock.

It would be helpful if you have any of the following tools to bring them with you:

Cordless screwdrivers or other screwdriver Flashlight Adjustable wrench (for removing plumbing connections) Utility knife

We will have some extra tools available. There is currently no electricity on site so dress appropriately.

We will provide water on site and lunch if at all possible. If we are not able to coordinate lunch each day a lunch break time will be indicated and there are many locations within a few minutes.

If there are any questions please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Amanda Norwood at 349-9411 or at nb_habitat3@earthlink.net
