WASHINGTON (AP) - Congressional Democrats say they're working with the White House to get an economic stimulus package on the president's desk in the next three to four weeks.
Following a meeting with the president, Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says lawmakers are feeling the pressure of the economic turmoil gripping world markets. And Bush himself said he's confident the two sides will agree on a plan to jump-start the economy and calm recession fears.
The president has broadly outlined a 140 to 150 billion dollar stimulus plan that would include tax cuts for individuals and businesses. Democrats have their own ideas, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the size of a deal proposed by Bush was "a good number."
So far, all sides are stressing cooperation, not potential division about the details.
