ESTERO, Fla. (AP) - Republican Rudy Giuliani is reaching to Washington to help him win Florida.
The former New York major has banked on his tax-cut message putting him over the top in the state's key GOP primary next Tuesday, but what he's been saying for weeks has given him little traction.
Now Giuliani has a new peg for his emphasis on tax cuts. Lawmakers who support him are introducing legislation that mirrors his tax proposals.
And Giuliani's not shy about claiming credit, saying he's been consulted by one of the sponsors on when to launch the bill. He says he'll wait on instructions before actively lobbying for the legislation.
Giuliani says growing and stabilizing the economy would be top priorities of his administration.
He says he remains confident that his strategy of concentrating on Florida instead of earlier contest states will prove successful.
