More details to come today on stimulus plan

»  Comments | Post a Comment

WASHINGTON (AP) - House Minority Leader John Boehner has promised more information today on a potential bipartisan deal between Congress and the White House on an economic stimulus package.

An agreement appears to be close following movement in negotiations last night with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

A House aide says Speaker Nancy Pelosi has agreed to drop increases in food stamp and unemployment benefits in exchange for tax rebates of at least $300 for all people earning a paycheck, including low-income earners who make too little to pay income taxes. Families with children would get an additional $300 per child, and those paying income taxes could get higher rebates. The official says agreement on tax breaks for businesses are yet to be worked out.

Pelosi and Boehner have said negotiations are moving toward an agreement on a package it's hoped will boost the lagging economy.
