CAPITOL HILL (AP) - A Senate panel has scheduled a meeting for next week to discuss an economic stimulus package that tentatively includes tax rebates of $300 to $1,200 per household and business tax cuts to jolt the slumping economy.
Montana Democratic Senator Max Baucus says he and the Senate Finance Committee's senior Republican have agreed to work quickly and mark up economic stimulus legislation next week.
Congressional officials close to the negotiations say House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Leader John Boehner reached agreement in principle in a telephone call this morning.
The officials say the two want key members of their parties to sign off on the deal before making any announcement.
The cost of the final business tax break package is uncertain.
