More high school students are applying to more colleges in an attempt to make sure they get accepted somewhere.
Kathy Cleaver is co-director of college counseling at Durham Academy.
Cleaver told The News & Observer of Raleigh there is a great deal of uncertainty on the part of students this time of year, as they await admissions decisions.
She says students who once might have applied to four or five schools are now sending up to a dozen applications.
Eric Chancy is a guidance counselor at Apex High School.
Chancy says population growth in Wake County has created a huge demand for higher education, particularly at the still-affordable University of North Carolina-system campuses.
Grant Fitzgerald at Trinity Academy in Raleigh says he's applied to seven universities.
