RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A state House panel will begin hearing testimony in the misconduct case against Rep. Thomas Wright.
The ethics committee is scheduled to meet Monday to consider whether Wright participated in actions unbecoming of a lawmaker. Eight counts of misconduct have been levied against him.
The panel's job is to determine whether there is clear and convincing evidence that Wright acted inappropriately. The committee has accused the Wilmington Democrat of misusing or failing to report more than $350,000 in campaign donations, loans and charitable money.
Wright can call witnesses and present his own evidence at the hearing, which is expected to last two days. The panel then could recommend to the full House that Wright be censured or expelled from office.
Wright also faces similar accusations in a criminal trial.
