GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - A Cary man who last year announced a bid for U.S. Senate has dropped out of the race.
John Ross Hendrix didn't file his candidacy papers by last Friday's deadline. He said he decided to get out of the race in part because of a lack of fundraising support.
Instead, Hendrix said he is supporting Jim Neal for the Democratic nomination.
Neal is a Chapel Hill corporate financial adviser. Hendrix said Neal would be effective on Capitol Hill.
Neal and four other candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination in the May 6 primary. The winner will likely take on Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole in the general election.
Hendrix said he plans to run against Republican Sen. Richard Burr in 2010.
