It was an up-close look for kids who normally couldn't have college farther from their minds.

The school system and the college are pushing for an increase in not only the number of kids who graduate from high school -- but also in the number of kids who graduate from college.
They hope to do that by sparking an interest in higher education early and often.
“It's a great time to plant those seeds, and to teach them that they can go on and be great things in their lives,”
So far, it seems like the strategy is working.
“I like college,” said 6-year-old Hailey Pearsall, who added that Wednesday’s trip made her want to go to college and become a hairdresser.
Sooner than later kids like Hailey could be achieving their goals.
And the folks at
“I told them … I look forward to the day I see them as freshman,” said CCC’s Fran Emory.
It’s a day that will come quicker than anyone might think.
About 70 more kindergartners from MCPS will tour the college Thursday morning.
