Often we find at least one story a week that provokes you to write and call about our coverage.
This week that story was about resistance to Beaufort County's attempts to remove Spanish from its voicemail and ballots.
Gloria from Ayden joined the chorus for this week's Viewer’s Voice.
"I do not believe that we should be furnishing all these services for the Hispanics and other people from other countries coming over here. They need to abide by our laws, speak our language,” says Gloria Carraway via voicemail.
"We don't do it for Russians, we don't do it for Chinese, we don't do it for any other nationality, we have a lot of Arabs here, we don't have anything in Arabic. Why are we showing favoritism towards the Spanish community? I think we ought to have everything in English. And if we're not, then do it for every language, don't just do it for one. Thank you for allowing me to give my two cents. We love you guys here. Keep up the great work," says an anonymous caller.
Thanks for the compliment and you raise a good question. As our story pointed out, groups like the American Civil Liberties Union say our government does not require English proficiency for people to live in the United States.
And Lee wants more racing news.
“Concerning NASCAR coverage by WNCT, to say I am disappointed is an understatement. After Monday's 6:00 pm edition, I am finished. There was mention of the race winner and little else. It is apparent to me that Brian Bailey is more concerned with other events in this area than NASCAR,” he said.
Brian and Brad Lewis are both NASCAR fans, and they cover the big races.
As our news director Adam Henning points out, “Our sports segments usually get two minutes, in which they give special attention to local sports especially the college and high school sports which you rarely see elsewhere.”
Thanks to everyone who wrote in and called for this week’s Viewer’s Voice.
