At 10:49 AM, the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office received a call from 4731 Faith Baptist Church Road regarding a subject being shot. The caller advised that her husband, Jeffery Todd Ashley, had been shot by Brandon Shane Hinnant, W/M, DOB 7/26/1971 and that Hinnant was still on the scene.
All appropriate personnel were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, deputies took Hinnant into custody. He was charged with 1st degree murder and is being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2008.
Ashley suffered multiple gunshots wounds to the upper torso area and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
At this time the motive for the shooting has not been determined. The investigation is continuing.
