TOKYO (AP) - A rare violent attack in Japan.
One person is dead and at least seven others are injured after a man went on a knifing rampage in a mall in eastern Japan today.
Officials say the man had two knives and slashed the victims in a walkway between the mall and a railway station.
Chaos broke out as frightened shoppers tried to escape the scene. The alleged attacker was arrested on site.
The 24-year-old man was already wanted in the slaying of a 72-year-old man, according to an official. Media reports say the suspect told investigators he "just wanted to kill everyone."
Violent crime is relatively rare in Japan, where most shootings and stabbings are committed by crime syndicates.
Police say they regret they weren't able to prevent today's attacks.
