Wal-Mart Shooting

The Jacksonville Police Department Emergency Communications Division received a 911 call at 2:31 A.M. this morning of an active shooting incident inside Wal-Mart at 561 Yopp Road, Jacksonville, N.C. Several more 911 calls followed. Officers from the Jacksonville Police Department, Onslow County Sheriff’s Department and the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to this incident. Officers arriving on the scene quickly engaged the incident by entering the business, while employees and customers were seen fleeing from the area. Officers attempted to locate the suspect(s) and while doing so heard shots being fired from inside the business. Officers located a male suspect near the rear interior of the business and he was immediately taken into custody. Jacksonville Police Department’s Tactical Unit conducted an interior check of the building and at this time it appears that the suspect acted alone during this incident. Although it was reported that several shots were reported to had been discharged no person inside the business at the time of the incident was shot or seriously injured. Police arrested 18 year old Elijah Payne with assault with a deadly weapon with Intent to kill, kidnapping, and discharging a firearm into occupied property. He is under a $75,000 bond.
