It was a day to come together and pray across the nation. Folks in Kinston came out to celebrate the National Day of Prayer at the courthouse. The town started participated in the day 10 years ago but it's been around for more than 50. Focus on the Family started the event and now it's grown nationally. President Bush also took part in the celebration. People here say it's a great time to get together and reflect and pray, no matter where you're from or where you've been.
"People come together, pray for all denominations, all walks of life, all races, nationalities and creeds. We pray for our nation, our state, we pray for our community," Evelyn Dove said.
Kinston isn't the only place where people gathered to pray. There were several other events across the east to honor the day.
