Copper Thieves Caught in the Act

At approximately 1:00 pm on May 1, 2008 a concerned citizen reported suspicious activity at 1038 Main Street, New Bern NC. Officers spoke with residents in the area and as a result began surveillance on the residence. A short while later the officers observed a red in color pick-up truck back into the yard of the residence near an air conditioner unit.

Officers continued to observe the activities occurring at the residence and observed two males exit the pick-up truck and begin to cut the copper tubing and electrical wires from the Air Conditioner Unit with bolt cutters and attempt to put the unit into the bed of the pick up truck. Officer’s confronted the suspects and apprehended them immediately.

Horace Leon TAYLOR, D.O.B. 4/26/1952 of 1407 Lark Street was arrested and charged with Felony Larceny. He was confined in the Craven County Jail under a $1,000.00 secured bond with a first appearance for 5/2/2008.

Lee Nathon BOYD, D.O.B. 7/23/1965 of 931 Green Street was arrested and charged with Felony Larceny. At the time of the arrest, BOYD had additional outstanding warrants for arrest for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Resist Obstruct and Delay a Police Officer and Failure to Return Rental Property. BOYD was confined in the Craven County Jail under a $7,000.00 secured bond with a first appearance of 5/2/2008.
