The Gate Community Center Opens

»  Comments | Post a Comment

It is a building that was once a run down bingo parlor but it has undergone a dramatic change in the last year.

Tonight area churches are going to be there for a faith based grand opening.  But it has been an entire community that is responsible for putting this together.

Thanks to $300,000 in grant money, police, fire and churches have been responsible for the renovation of this building.

There is room for entertainment and Lenoir Community College has a GED lab.  The goal is to get people off the streets and on the right track.

Officer Woody Spencer, of the Kinston Police Department said, "Pretty much anybody who needs a place to teach and better themselves or others can use the gates as building to do that."

The center officially opened this morning.
