RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Three current and former workers have testified they were never exposed to pesticides on Ag-Mart farms in North Carolina.
State officials have accused Ag-Mart of forcing workers into tomato fields that had been freshly sprayed with pesticides. One woman who had a child born without arms and legs said the company is responsible for her son's deformities.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported the state Pesticide Board on Wednesday heard from company workers who denied the allegations.
Sostenes Salazar said she was neither sprayed nor told to work in fields wet with chemicals.
The board is considering whether Ag-Mart is guilty of about 200 violations of worker safety laws.
Company officials have said the state misinterpreted its records, prompting false charges.
