WILMINGTON - United States Attorney George E.B. Holding announced that in federal court today David Wayne Forsyth, of Four Oaks, North Carolina pled guilty before Senior United States District Judge James C. Fox to enticement of a child to engage in illegal sexual conduct.
A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on September 4, 2008. Following one and a half months of chats and solicitation on yahoo messenger, on February 8, 2007, Forsyth was arrested in Greensboro, trying to pick up a girl he believed to be 14 years old in a restaurant. He had traveled from Four Oaks, and planned to have sex with her. He was found with lubricant and condoms on his person, as well as a digital camcorder and a camera phone.
Forsyth was detected by a volunteer of Perverted Justice, a citizen organization that scans the internet looking for child predators. Their primary mode of investigation is posing as children on internet chat sites. Thereafter, they coordinate and cooperate with law enforcement to pursue these predators. Mr. Holding commented: “I want to commend the cooperative efforts of the citizen organization, Perverted Justice, who have worked closely with law enforcement in this case. All of us have an obligation to protect our children from these predators. Only through constant vigilance and cooperation can we obtain justice for these children.”
This case is part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative, a national program aimed at ensuring that criminals exploiting children are effectively prosecuted by making full use of all available law enforcement resources at every level.
