Tickets are still available for the Carteret County Domestic Violence Program’s Holiday Fashion Show & Luncheon on Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City.

This year’s event opens at 12:30 p.m. with a buffet lunch and silent auction, followed by the fashion show, announcement of the Carteret County Council for Women’s 2008 Distinguished Women awards and a live auction.
“This is a great opportunity for people to both give and receive,” said CCDVP Board President Robin Parker. “The Domestic Violence Program and its clients have great needs, particularly during an economic downturn like we are experiencing now and particularly during the holidays.”
The event will feature silent and live auctions of nearly $12,000 in art, gift certificates, home décor, home services, jewelry, and more – all donated by individuals, artists and businesses from the area. Also up for bid will be a signed racing hat worn by Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd on television’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” Three people will go home with fashions by New York designer Alfred Fiandaca. Two dresses and one suit valued at more than $1,000 each have been donated and will be raffled at the show.
This is a great opportunity to dress up a little, enjoy a buffet lunch, see beautiful fashions from area stores, and get in the spirit of the season,” Ms. Parker said. “It’s also a way to help the women and children – an average of 24 a month – who are sheltered at the program’s safe haven, Caroline’s House.”
The domestic violence program relies on grants and donations to keep the shelter open, to provide outreach to victims and public awareness in the community.
“The proceeds from this event are critical to meeting our mission of sheltering and supporting victims of family violence,” said CCDVP Executive Director Glenda Riggs. “It costs $1,200 a month just to pay the utilities at the shelter. With the current downturn in the economy, finding money to meet those and other costs – such as food and transportation – is not easy. But we have been amazed by the response of individuals, organizations and businesses who have signed on as sponsors or silent auction donors for the fashion show. It’s going to be great!”
