JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - A Zimbabwean opposition official says the country's rival parties are gathering in South Africa for a new round of talks aimed at resolving the political impasse that has paralyzed the nation.
Negotiations will center on a constitutional amendment to allow a power-sharing government and the position of prime minister for the opposition leader to be authorized by Zimbabwe's parliament.
President Robert Mugabe and opposition leaders signed a power-sharing deal in September. But disagreement over the allocation of key Cabinet posts has stalled the formation of a government for more than two months.
Nelson Chamisa, spokesman for Zimbabwe's main opposition party, confirmed Tuesday that negotiators are in South Africa.
