City of Greenville’s Aquatics and Fitness Center will host its annual Senior Health Fair on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. This event will provide participants with an opportunity to obtain information from organizations on a variety of health and wellness issues.
Free screenings will include: blood pressure checks; eye screenings; glaucoma screenings; hearing screenings; spinal screenings and blood sugar screenings. From 9 -11 am free 10 minute chair massages will be available.
Other activities provided will include 3 workshops. Beginning at 9 am, Mike McCammon, Exercise Physiologist and professor at the ECU Human Performance Lab will discuss the importance of resistance training as we age. Our 10 am workshop will cover the topic of COPD and other respiratory issues with Beth Shane, Respiratory Therapist with PCMH’s Health Steps program. Our 11 am workshop will have Mary Gaskins, Dietician with PCMH’s Health Steps program discussing nutritional tips for seniors. As with our screenings, this is free to the public.
We are also going to provide “demonstration/participation” programs. Due to the response of the community regarding the Chair Aerobics offered weekdays on GTV 9, we wanted to give fair goers an opportunity to give it a try. This will be offered at 9:10 am and again at 10:20 am. At 9:30 am, get ready to loosen up and lighten up with Laughter Yoga. Join Rhonda Lee Locklair, certified Laughter Yoga Instructor for this lively 30 minute program. You are sure to get a lot of laughs from it and feel energized and yet relaxed at the same time. Our participation programs are also free to the public.
Don’t forget Flu Vaccinations. To make it convenient for you, Kroger Pharmacy will be here providing flu shots. Cost: $25. Medicare Part B recipients will have claims filed for them. Please bring your Medicare card and a photo ID.
As a reminder, there is no charge to attend this annual event and the general public is invited to attend.
