Early voting started on October 16th and so far more than 1 million North Carolinians have cast their ballots.
The state board of elections announced today the preliminary totals and said the numbers already surpasses the 984,000 ballots cast during the full voting period in 2004.
Of those who have voted early so far, 58% are registered democrats, while only 25% are registered republicans.
Elections officials expect that roughly one third of North Carolina voters will vote early.
