COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Law enforcement agencies in a half dozen South Carolina counties say they're setting up systems to alert the public when senior citizens suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's wander away.
Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer said Tuesday seven states have the Silver Alert system. That includes North Carolina.
Bauer, senior advocates and law enforcement officials talked about the program similar to the well-known Amber Alert system at a news conference Tuesday.
Sumter Police Chief Patty Patterson says a system like that may have helped find Barbara Ellen Brunson. The 64-year-old woman wandered from a care facility in August and hasn't been found.
