GREENVILLE, North Carolina (September 22, 2008) —A new organization that supports pediatric cancer patients and their families will sponsor a family picnic September 28 from 1-3 p.m. at Elm St. Park.
All present and former pediatric cancer patients in the region and their families are invited. There will be a cookout, games for patients and their siblings, and opportunities for families to interact with each other and learn about the services Riley’s Army offers.
More than 150 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in Eastern North Carolina. Riley’s Army was established to recruit, train and provide volunteers to sit with patients and their siblings. The group is also poised to provide education, meals, prayer and other types of support.
Riley’s Army was organized in April in honor of volunteers who have assisted the family of 8-year-old Winterville resident Riley Philpot in her ongoing battle with cancer. The organization is an approved charitable fund with the Greater Greenville Community Foundation (GGCF). For more information visit www.RileysArmy.com.
