Cancer never sleeps and neither will hundreds of people who are gathering at East Carolina University for Relay for Life on Friday.
74 teams of students, churches and other civic organizations took to the track at ECU to honor cancer survivors and raise money and awareness on how early detection can lead to recovery.
Survivors also hit the stage to share their life stories.
Survivors like Pam Adams says it gives new patients strength to see that others can beat cancer and recover.
"Everybody is affected by cancer through somebody they know or are related to so it's good to see them involved and understanding the need for cancer research,” Adams said.
ECU Relay for Life team organizer Amanda Robb says the school hopes to raise $100,000 for cancer research.
