Some kids in the east are getting a little more computer savvy, thanks to a grant. More than 40 students at PS Jones Middle School in Beaufort County got free computers for personal and home use. The students are part of the county's Gear Up program, aimed at helping kids prepare for college. To get a computer the student must be academically motivated and have no computer at home. Officials say computers are a necessity in this day and time.

"In these days and times students must have a computer at home. They need them for their homework, they need them for research and they just need them to communicate," Chynna Bonner, Beaufort County Schools Gear Up Coordinator said.

24 students at Washington High School will also get computers tomorrow.
