It's an important year for one area of science: astronomy.
400 years ago an Italian scientist, Galileo Galilee, improved the telescope.
Last weekend hundreds of middle schoolers honored the accomplishment.
Go-Science kicked off its International Year of Astronomy in style with the latest modern versions of invention for students to use.
And the sky brought out hundreds of amateur student astronomers.
After all field experience is the best way to spark kid interest.
Joined by experts with the Carolina Skies Astronomy Club, people around the globe joined in for 100 hours of sky watching with modern versions of invention.
“It's designed to improve awareness of astronomy,” said Go-Science executive director Roger Conner. “Preserving our night skies as well as broader concepts in science and technology."
To the moon and beyond.
Ensuring a shot at the nighttime sky, gives kids plenty more to think about.
