History rules for middle and high schoolers in the east. East Carolina hosted the Annual History Day competition today. It featured more than 100 projects with this year's theme of “Individuals in History.” The students focused on everyone from Neil Armstrong’s first step on the moon to Muhammad Ali and designer Coco Chanel. Officials say the competition is an educational tool; students must use primary documents in their research including letters, portraits or photographs.
"This gives students the opportunity to work with those as actual historians do. It teaches them how to analyze, how to think, and how to think critically," Chad Ross with ECU’s History Department said.
The winners of today's competition move on to state and national contests.
